A Couple of Carving Meeting Results.

Here are a couple heads I carved at our Tuesday carve-a-long.  As a rule, I don't normally work on a current project at these meetings as it's hard to concentrate and keep up with the conversations and joke telling.  I can, however, almost whip out a quick head study which will come in handy later on.  It also serves as a teaching aid for those wanting a little help.   I think the bottom one just might be "Cotton-eyed Joe", a character I've always wanted to do.  Not really sure where the top one is headed.  He's looking a little lost at the moment.

  1. Lynn, love the "heads". The top one looks like some of the bartenders I've known. You know the type? Drying a glass and listening but not really interested. That's the first thing that popped into my head when I saw it. Thanks for all the great lessons. I "do" pay attention.

  2. I envy the folks in the carving cub you go to...getting to get tips in person from you would be a real treat. I too never take something important to me to work on during club meetings because like you said, it is too easy to mess it up while involved in the social aspect of the club. I love that social part of the getting together. The heads both look good, but man is that guy on the bottom UGLY...the carving is beautiful, the guy is ugly. Keep posting tidbits for us until it is time for a new project.

  4. That’s what I’ve been doing lately, creating interesting face caricatures. I’ve carved them on pumpkin carvings which look interesting.

  5. As always, great carvings..Love the expressions..I watched Tom Horn last evening, have you ever carved a Tom Horn or Steve McQuenn? It was a great movie and left us with many questions of guilt or innocent's. Good luck in Dayton!
