Developing A Character! Part 1 - Initial Steps
Let's start off the New Year with maybe something a little different than what you've done in the past with a few tips on which might help you out in the future. When I'm surfing around the net each day I come across all sorts of things that I think might be useful when coming up with new carvings. The real beauty of the net and computers is just how handy they are when you take advantage of just what they can do. So, with this project we'll use some of these features to develop a new figure. Now I said develop...not copy! We'll try and make sure that the end product will be ours....not theirs.
Here are the links to the sites I use in the video:
1. This is the video link to the Cartoon video clip: http://vimeo.com/81341794
2. This is the download site for MWSnap, the screen capture program: http://mwsnap.en.softonic.com/
After you use that MWSnap program a while I'm sure you'll agree it's one of the neatest free downloads available.
I've also put the drawing I did along with the photo of the character in the associated folder in the Gallery should you want to use it.

This is truly starting at the beginning, and that is a great place to start a tutorial. That is an interesting character, should evolve into a great carving. I am off to watch the video...from what I saw on your video it looks a lot like Little Tombstone, same folks perhaps. I am surprised you never did any of the figures in Little Tombstone, I especially loved the mortician, but they were all great. Glad to have you back in the shp making carvings and videos, we were eagerly awaiting the resumption of our education. Hope you had a great Holiday Season.
ReplyDeleteI am ready for this... ;-)
ReplyDeleteNice video.
ReplyDeleteLynn, I like your approach. I tried to do that when I created a bust of Donald Driver but my freehand drawing skills were not the greatest. So I went to Plan B which was to trace your head pattern onto paper and then redraw for the shape I needed for a bald black person. I was pleased with my results.
