Wind River Willie

I've been wanting to do a Hudson's Bay Blanket Capote for quite sometime and here is my first attempt.  You can't tell much about that now but as soon as it's painted it will be pretty clear what such a thing is.  I carved the head & hat Saturday and finished up the body yesterday and am in the process of painting now.  Hopefully, will get it finished by the Kansas City show.   Hope you like him.

  1. Another fine carving. Looks like he only needs a birch bark canoe and he will be on his way down river.

  2. So far so good. I don't know what a Hudson's bay blanket Capote is but I can't wait to find out. Ginny

  3. This guy is going to be awesome. In my Boy Scout days, a group of us leaders made some capotes from a Hudson Bay pattern. They were very warm during our sub-zero campouts, and looked very striking at a Rendezvous or a Klondike Derby. We used some material we picked up at the Woolen Mills in Pendleton, Oregon.
I am looking forward to seeing this guy finished, as all your other mountain men have been great characters. I have plans to do one of my own, based on the capote I made years ago. Thanks for the inspiration!

  4. I Goggled Hudson's Bay Blanket Capote and it will look great when painted. Now I am wondering what colors you will use. I love his expression and also his hat, he looks plenty grizzled and ornery...like a true mountain man or voyager.
