I want to be the first to tell you YES what you and Judy do for us is Worth while. It is throught your videos I am learning to carve. Thank you and Judy very much for all the hard work you do for Us. Ginny
I really never thought about you reading our comments . I guess I didn't think about it very much. I have left comments on the WCI forum many times. Not knowing if you read them or not . So it is good to know you really do. I personly appreciate all 247 videos. Ginny
I watch every one of your videos, most of the time more than once. I hope you're going to do some dry brushing on the Don's beard. I'm trying to kick my painting up a notch, but dry brushing is my downfall. I have watched your other videos multiple times, but I must have selective blindness or something.
Lynn, I'm still pretty wet behind the ears when it comes to carving, but without your help I wouldn't be where I am in this hobby. Thanks so very much to both you and Judy. Patrick
Lynn, Let me say I truly appreciate the effort you and Judy put into these videos, your blog, and gallery photos. I enjoyed this one in particular with the way you started the eyes, which is always my nemesis. You always explain and demonstrate steps so easily. Job well done!! Keep them coming. Merryl
I watch them religiously.....over and over again....always picking up something new each time I watch. Without your videos I do not think I would of ever pushed beyond my comfort zone....
Lynn, glad to see more people are commenting and giving you feedback...I think we can see better when you carve close to your body and Judy can zoom in and, like Judy, you move the carving to fast when you want to take an arms length look at it. I too have enjoyed all of your videos and carvings and as I said in another post, very glad you are "BACK". I haven't done any carving in a couple months but now I'm getting excited about it again...I see you got a nice new glove to break in...
I think your videos are invaluable and I hope they never stop.l I've been watching since the first and I've picked up so much info that I too have improved with the carving I do. One thing though is I do not want to get to comfortable with all you do because I want people to look at my carvings and know they are mine and not yours. But each video you do gives me a little something more that I did'nt have before. thank you and Judy so much fore what you do. You are really inspiring. fred k
Your videos are great for all of us. I use them for inspiration and instruction, and , when I can't carve (sore hands sore eyes, etc) I can always dial up one of your videos and watch and learn and be inspired. I have seen all of your videos at least once, have repeated many of them, and recommended them to all of my friends and carving buddies. They are equally impressed with how you do things and how you explain things. For what it's worth, I hope you are doing this for a VERY long time to come, and hope to meet you or take a class from you someday. Your instruction has helped me and others so much, more than we can mention. I appreciate your patient instruction and appreciate you and Judy doing this for the benefit of the rest of us. Maybe someday we can repay the favors. Happy carving! Eric
Lynn, I confess, I too have been a lurker, watching your videos for years and not commenting. I've learned how to carve a hat and attach it properly, all though cutting the top of the head off the first time was scarey. My necks are no longer big fat tree trunks but meet the skull nicely like they're suppose to. Thanks for all you, both of you. Bob
I am really pleased to see this new set of videos/tutorials. I go thru withdrawals if I go to long with out one. Please keep up the excellent work. Your ability to adjust to almost any subject matter is impressive.
I am sure you know how much I appreciate the video series you guys post, I have your blog set as the default page whenever I turn on my computer so I can see if there is something new there for me to relish. I also encourage all to respond to the videos as I feel it is the least one can do...Lynn and Judy spend a lot of time on each segment, we can certainly afford a minute to give feedback. It is hard for me to imagine how poorly I would be carving without these videos to have learned from the past 3 years that I have been coming here. Many would aruge, and probably correctly, that my carvings are still amateurish and crude, but I know that whatever improvement I have achieved is due to Lynn and Judy. I have taken classes from some pretty big name carvers, and NEVER got as much from a day with them as I do a single segment with Lynn. The classes are pretty much devoid of one-on-one, which is really what these sessions are. I can see better what is going on here than trying to look past the elbow and hand of an instructor carving quickly on my roughout so he can get to the other 15 in the class...this blog is far superior to most instruction I have received elsewhere....and this is FREE....I challenge all to find a better deal than OutWest. Much Gracias my Oklahoma amigo and amiga..you guys are the best.
Lynn, I look forward to your videos, and can't wait to watch them. I have learned a lot from them. My eyes are turning out better now, as well as the noses. I have started using more staging of the carvings. Don't change your style of carving.
Sorry Lynn I don't always comment on every video. That being said I watch them over and over even though I am nowhere near talented enough to do what it is you do. I have learned a lot about carving, wood grain and a good deal about anatomy. As i look at other carvers work i can see how important it is even in caricature carving. It is what set you apart from many of the others. Thanks again Lynn to you and Judy for your time and letting us in on some of your secrets and thought processes . I for one consider it a gift. Thanks again. St
Hi Lynn, guilty as charged another lurker! I've been following your blog for about a year now and have never commented , so I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you both for the work you do and the time you dedicate to this blog. I live in England and what you do just doesn't happen over here. Ive watched every one of your videos at least once and they have given me the inspiration and confidence to attempt far more than i thought possible for a total novice, because of OutWest woodcarving I now have a new life long hobby,I've turned my garage into a purpose built workshop and spend as much time in there as possible, please keep up the good work. Trev the novice Brit woodcarver
As I mentioned earlier Lynn, I've been following along on the Don Quixote videos and feel that I'm sitting in your workshop along side ya as we proceed cut for cut. Learning from you has been a most worthwhile experience and I appreciate all you and Judy are doing.
A suggestion I believe that would help us is when you hold the piece out after you've made a few cuts, please pause & let Judy zoom in so we can get a detailed look at what you've done as you "slowly" rotate the piece in observation. Also, when you indicate your cutting marks or outlines on the carvng, let Judy zoom in so we can see what you've drawn. There is some glare at times that washes out what you're doing or indicating and before we can figure out what you've done you've picked up ole reliable and got the carving in position to cut away some chips before she can frame it. I know that's picky, but I thought that maybe you're not aware of it.....I know Judy is....lol!
And for those of you who respond (or not respond)to Lynn's blog, I know each of you enjoy and learn alot from these videos and to show your apprciation(besides verbal accolades),Lynn keeps a Tip Jar handy and your contributions can help defray costs of operating the blog. That's not free. Any and all you could drop in the jar would help with these expenses and I know it would be appreciated by these fine folks who donate their time and energy in producing & editing these tutorials..
Looking forward to what we'll do after the DQ head is done. And by the way I like the shorter time length of the videos (they're easier for us to download too).
Finally, and as an after thought, maybe you'll run a poll of the viewers and see if a standing figure vs. a horse staddeled figure is what we'd like to do with DQ...And, dare I say....maybe you could run a contest to see who comes up with the best looking side-kick caricature of Sancho vs yours that you'd be doing off camera, just to see what develops.
Regardless of what we think you should do next, I know you'll do what excites you about this project and I for one will appreciate and concur with your decision.
Lynn Just wanted to Thank You for the GREAT job you are doing with your blog and videos. I work for Woodcraft and teach carving there. When people come in looking at our carving tools I always tell them about your site. Keep up the good work!!!
I would just like to say that of all the carving videos I have seen, watching yours is the best as well as the easiest to view. I would love to learn how to carve and watching a master is good for me especially since you help beginners. I am past 70 years of age now and live in England and I am so glad that your well made videos are available..
