Forty Niner Scene

Here's the first character to a scene I've been wanting to do for a number of years.  I carved the mule's body a little over 2 years ago but he evidently hid out in a cupboard until I rediscovered him earlier this week.  As the video section of this blog is temporarily on hold due to Judy assuming her new role as caretaker maybe I can get caught up on some of the old projects gathering dust in the shop.

Naturally, this will portray the struggle between the miner and the mule with the mule getting the upper hand in the situation.  I already have the other figure sketched out so it should be a pretty interesting piece.  There are a number of photos in the Gallery and your comments are welcomed and appreciated.

As for my Mom, she is doing much better.  Nothing broken but a small blood vessel.  Unfortunately, it caused a small brain hemorrage which we're watching pretty close.  We want to thank you for alll your kind thoughts and prayers.

  1. Really glad to here that your mom is doing a lot better.

Is the pack (orange-yellow) carved and attached, or is it part of the mule? Are all the items 'attached' to the pack attached as they appear to be?

  2. The Mule and the pack are one piece. I attached the tail and the things on the pack. It's gonna be a classic piece I just feel it!

  4. Great news about your Mom...it is really a blessing to have your mother still around, but also a great responsibility, one that is very difficult at times. I am glad that for now things are going well for you and Judy.

I really like the mule, and know that the scene will be a gret feast for the eyes..there is so much potential in the subject that greatness is almost guaranteed when combined with your artistic talent. I am eagerly awaiting the final result.

  7. Aw, come on, Lynn, you're using up all of the good ideas:-) Leave some for the rest of us or I'm soon gonna have to take up stamp collecting or something!

You've got a great start there (most people would stop there). I love the buck teeth. I can't wait to see what you come up with.

Glad to see your Mom's doing better.

  9. I just took a look at all of the photos. From the expression in the head-on shot of the donkey, I looks as though he/she is expressing a legitimate beef.

That's a mighty heavy load to carry for just few lousy oats in the feedbag come nightfall!

  10. I am glad to hear your mom is doing better. I love the mule, can't wait to see the full scene. I think I am doing something wrong though. I click on the zoom in a Picture to get a better look at the detail and to save my eyes. I get a black screen though. I figured out you have to click on "full details page" at the far right once in a pix and then click "photo" once a second window opens. Is that the way it is supposed to work?

  11. You guys seem to know more about that Gallery then I do. Here's what I found when accessing a picture.
    1. I first click on the Album
    2. Then click on the individual photo
    3. If I want to look at larger view I click the little magnifying glass in the upper right corner.
    4. The screen momentarily goes black but then the photo appears.
5.. If I want to see it even larger I can use the enlargement slide at the bottom right.

I think the reason it seems your screen goes black is maybe you have a much slower circuit than I. Just give it a bit to see if the photo shows up. As for the "Full Details Page" I'm not at all familiar with that as I've never used it. Guess I'll have to do some homework.

  12. I too am having the same blackout problem. (I do not have a problem with the videos. They download and play right away.) I even let the black screen stay there for 15 to 20 minutes with nothing happening.

Maybe some computer person will come to our rescue!!!

  13. Thanks Lynn for the info. It still is not working... I let it wait and wait, I will continue to go to the "Full Detail Page" and click on "Photo" to use the magnifier. It is like the zoom feature is not using the same process as the "Photo" zoom feature. Definitely a computer expert may be required here. Unfortunately, I am not that person.

  14. I've again gone back and tried accessing the photos and have no problems at all. Have you tried opening other albums and looking at the photos there? Really sorry you're having troubles. Don't like that at all.

  15. Well now I'm haveing problems, I didn't yesterday, big black screen when I try to magnify and Lynn I try another set of photos and same thing. I never have had this problem before, go figure?

  16. Could you tell me exactly what you are doing to get this problem? I'm still accessing all photos without a hitch. Thanks.

  17. Lynn, this is what I am doing and have always done:
    Clicking on Gallery
    Clicking on "Latigo Lil"
    Clicking on slected photo
Clicking on magnifer and it's opening a black screen.
By the way I have Comcast internet service.

  18. Lynn,

It appears to be happening only at your place. I tried the explore button and clicked on another album and then a picture and magnifying glass and it worked just like you said it should.

    Go figure.

  19. I have tried several albums and several pix inside each and get the black screen of death. No Biggie. I will use the Full Etail Page and click on Photo. BTW I have Insight Cable, Deb had Comcast, so I don't think it is the provider. It is our computer setting probably working with the Picasa. It used to work for me. Might be Actiview version or something like that.

  21. I have comcast as well and the magnify function does work after a few seconds on my computer. I use a mac if that makes any difference. The function is different than it used to be though.
