Jack Palance - Shane - Part 1

Here's the first post on our next project.  We filmed it outside while we were burning brush on our Son's place next door and as it was kind of windy at times the audio gets interrupted occasionally.  Whatever, I think this will be a fun project and give us a figure that will be a hit with anyone who has seen the movie Shane or is a fan of Jack.

I will place the pattern for the head in a gallery folder along with the reference photos.

  1. It is good to see a video, has been a while what with you getting ready to clean up at the KC Show. I looked online today and saw (I believe) four winners that you showed. I am not surprised. I do not get the Bison that beat you for best of show...I guess you have to see it in person to visualize anything there, in the photo it looked like a ball of lint from under the bed. One question.....on the pattern of the head you showed in the video, you gave the dimensions for the profile of the head....but how wide is the blank? I sort of eyeball my blanks and cut the to the width that I think they should be, but there has to be a ratio that I am not aware of. Looking forward to the next installment.

  3. Looking forward to another project. I wonder if it isn't too late if you could spend a little more time on carving the eye planes and how the nose works into that. That is where I seem to have the most difficulty. I think a lot of times I carve the eye planes in way to deep and he ends up with a head that has too much slope and hardly any forehead. Thanks!!!!

  4. Looking forward to this next series. I am envious of you being out in the yard burning things and being warm enough to sit and carve. We still have 11 inches of snow covering the ground and the snow banks are arm pit deep here in central Wisconsin.
