Don Quixote - Finished At Last

Judy and I put the ending to this poor Spaniard this afternoon.  I'm am really pleased at the way he turned out.  I was a little worried about whether the large amount of silver in the color scheme would overpower everything else but it seems to work, at least for me.   I think the brass nameplate will also add another touch of color that will balance it out even more.

I hope you enjoyed this series.  I know it was a long one but sometimes that's what it takes to create some special as this one certainly is.  There are more photos in the Gallery and I look forward to your comments.

  1. Love this carving. Great face. I'd like to at least try the head, not enough practice to do the entire thing.
And I get it..."NO LINSEED OIL" (don't know what to do with the can I have).
Thanks again and I learned alot on this one...nice touch with the finger painting!

  2. A great carving, a great project, and a super-great job on the video (both content and production) I learn something valuable every video. I sure am glad you are generous enough to put up the tutorials for free, otherwise I would have a serious investment in OutWest videos. Thanks to you and Judy for doing this for all of us. Looking forward to the next project, and the next, and the next......

  5. Once again a very successful series. Although I carve other things the western theme is my favorite. I'm still waiting for you to do a video of a cowboy on a horse. Hopefully it might be your next project. But no matter what it is I'm really looking forward to it. Thanks a million for all of yours and Judy's kindness and hard work.
Oh by the way. We all would really like to see Judy . So put her in the videos some way. He he. Ginny

  8. It does seem like a bit too much silver color...how about some black pin striping type designs on the armour? just my opinion.

  10. Lynn,

This is a fantastic piece that besides us, you should be very proud of! I still think a piece of an old windmill blade would absolutely send it through the roof! Thank you again for sharing.

Although I primarily carve wildfowl for national competitions, I do a few caricature carvings with a small group once a week.

The information you share certainly has helped me with all my types of carving. Doing an Ainu style Asian Black Bear currently. Will post on Facebook after it's done.
