Don Quixote - Part 19

With the carving part finished it's time to get out the paint and brushes. But before that we have a little cleaning up to do and some quick work with the burning pen. Also, this segment is pretty long....just about 45 minutes so make sure your chair is comfortable. Popcorn might help too.

  2. It was good to see how you painted the face. I have been having a lot of trouble with getting the skin too dark . I think I must use too much red iron oxdide. could you tell me what number you set your burning iron on and what kind of tip you use. Thanks Ginny
    Great video as usual Ginny

  3. It is amazing how you can look and not see. I have been watching your videos for a couple of years (at least), and looking at your gallery (a lot), yet I never noticed that you paint only the pupil on your eyes and do not include the iris. Amazing...if you had asked me, I would have said of course he paints the iris because his eyes look natural. It just goes to show that if you indicate enough realism the eye and brain will fill in what it expects to see rather than what is actually there. I will try this on my next carving and see if anybody else notices. In some instances, such as children I can see that big "doll eyes" would be appropriate, but a squinty guy...well your method is certainly easier, and by this revelation I just had is just as effective. Thanks for the lesson. BTW, Don is looking great.

  4. Thanks for the detailed description of dry brushing. That has been my Nemesis. I didn't use a completely dry brush, and I was too timid about getting the paint out of the brush before applying it to the figure. Now I'll just accept the fact that if I get too much paint out of the brush, I'll just have to go over it a second time. This episode is definitely a keeper. Thanks for all your work.
