Just about done. With this segment we start wrapping things up before we can head to the paint table. One thing though....Judy missed me putting glue to the left arm and putting it into place. I'll make sure I cover that when we put the next arm in place. And about that big belly....That's not fat...that's good living!!

This was a great video. but all of them are. I learn so much from you. Thank you. This carving is going to be a prize winner for sure. Ginny
ReplyDeleteThis one is looking just Wonderful. I kind of thought you would paint the arms and body before you glued it up. Looking forward to seeing the paint job. Thank you.

another great project Lynn can't wait to see it painted.
ReplyDeleteYou must have had a set of Tinker Toys as a kid....lots of components to Don, but they all coalesce into a great figure. I think you can get a much better flow of motion and action by making components as opposed to carving in one piece like you alluded to at the flap sander...each method has it's proponents and detractors. To me the final result is the key and I like your figures better than most of the other style..all depends of course on the individual carving. I really like the super skinny arms Don has, makes him look so much older...I think they would have been very difficult to carve that thin in these positions in one piece from a block, but possibly someone much more skilled than I could. I was all ready to run to Lowes and get some locktite epoxy until I heard you mention the difficulties dealing with squeeze out. I am rethinking that purchase now. Will you be putting on bands to secure the arms while the glue dries, or are they tight enough in position with the dowels to dry as they fit now? Looking forward t the next installment.
ReplyDeleteAs usual, I'm really enjoying this series. Looking forward to the painting. That's my weakest point. I've already improved some from watching your videos, but that dry-brushing technique still eludes me.
