Great to see you carving on this piece again. I see you've been busy (incredible work on Black Buffalo) but I was getting anxious to see the progress on "Don Q". I was a little disappointed when you started to shorten the beard but you are the "master" and how could I question your decision. It really worked. Thank You so much for sharing your art. Vito
It is great to see a new installment in the series. I know other things crop up and occupy your time, but we sure do like our regular "fix" of carving videos as well. I was wondering how well the super skinny arms would look when I saw the cartoon we used as a basis..I need not have doubted, they look fantastic. I also like the extra ring on the base, not just for the spear but it just adds more interest to the base. I know what you mean about needing a good base. This summer while on vacation, the wife and I went into a pretty high class art gallery in Park city, UT. Paintings for thousands of dollars, sculptures and bronzes with no price tag on them (you know what that means!) The thing I liked best in the whole gallery was a base for a bronze made out of a cedar log..it just had wonderful texture and visual appeal. I told the salesman/manager that that was my favorite piece in the gallery. He told me I wasn't the only one, so many folks liked that piece that the artist that made the base now took orders from the gallery and that they sold a fair number of his bases. This carving is going to be so neat, mainly (in my mind) because it is different...I haven't seen another carving like this before. Like in one of your recent forum posts..we need to stop carving the same things everybody else does and expand out art/craft's boundaries. You Lynn, are on the edge of the boundary, and I mean that in the best possible way.
WOW Lynn, he's looking really good, love those arms. Been having withdrawals, my internet service has been messed up, playing catch up.....hate to ask but how thick was the wood for the arms??
