"Hey, Lynn! Just shut up and carve old man. What do you think people come here for; your good looks or to hear stories about your family vacations; NO, they come here for the free, poor quality video tutorials….even (name removed by me); especially (name removed by me). He can’t even afford to buy a decent piece of basswood let alone pay for a professional quality DVD tutorial on woodcarving.
Just one more thing; I’ll probably continue to come to this site, at my pleasure, and download anything that might be of value to me. And I’ll continue to comment if and when I choose to whether you or anybody else likes it. You’re the one that started this blog and dictated its purpose. Now you need to show a little respect to its followers." Signed: Chip
I sincerely apologize to the person whose name I removed for having to put up with such childish comments. If there was some way I could block Chip I would have long ago but unfortunately there isn't. Like a lot of things in life we just have to put up with it sometimes and go on about our business.

WOW! Some disgruntled watcher who is upset that you take the time out of your busy life to share some of your carving journey with us. I for one enjoy all that you post on this site, as it gives me some insight into a creative talent and how that talent is displayed. I enjoy the videos, and sometimes want more. But you are doing this out of your goodwill and no one has the right to criticize. If they don't like it, look elsewhere for video instruction. The quality is great, the instruction is wonderful and yes, even the personal comments are enjoyed. It is nice to hear from you and to "hang out" with you for just a few moments.
ReplyDeleteYou have inspired us all, and I hope one angry, petulant commenter does not make you stop doing what you are doing. I have taken classes from some great carvers such as Marv Kaisersatt and Pete LeClair when they come to our town of Boise, and enjoy the regular company and friendship of local carvers like Gene Fuller and Cleve Taylor (members of the CCA), but I can honestly say that I have learned as much from you and your videos and blog posts as I have from anyone else. I say "Keep it coming!" and don't let anyone tell you different. You are a blessing to those of us who enjoy watching you work and listening to your words of wisdom.
Just my two cents worth.

There's an old saying: "If you're getting it for free, you don't have the right to complain when it's not there."
ReplyDeleteChip needs to get himself a life.
I watch every one of your videos even though I'm not doing much caricature carving anymore. Like Eric, I enjoy your personal comments, the trucks on the road, the mule across the road (I didn't use the other word for fear Chip might live nearby), the neighbor mowing his rocks, and especially the interplay between you and Judy. Oh, yeah, and the carving, too! As far as I am concerned, the quality of your videos is first rate. Of course, that's coming from a guy who's old enough that he can't hear Hi-Fi and can't see HD.

Wow I cant believe that one. Lynn I guess there really are all types out there. I read it a few times and sat back, chuckled and tried to figure out where all of his frustration was coming from. I think I found it.
ReplyDeleteHes someone who lost out on winning The Ron Ryan Award . Obviously he doesn’t even know what a Ron Ryan Award is let alone know what it stands for. This person is truly “Ignorant”
Ignorant: [ig-ner-uhnt]
1. uninstructed, untutored, untaught. IGNORANT, ILLITERATE, UNLETTERED, UNEDUCATED mean lacking in knowledge (carving particularly)or in training . IGNORANT may mean knowing little or nothing, or it may mean uninformed about a particular subject: An ignorant person can be dangerous. I confess I'm ignorant of mathematics. ILLITERATE originally meant lacking a knowledge of literature or similar learning, but is most often applied now to one unable to read or write (or carve in his case): necessary training for illiterate soldiers. UNLETTERED emphasizes the idea of being without knowledge of literature: unlettered though highly trained in science. UNEDUCATED refers especially to lack of schooling or to lack of access to a body of knowledge equivalent to that learned in schools: uneducated but highly intelligent.
After reading a recent blog about the uptick in Northern Lights due to recent solar activity, I took a moment to stroll down through the comments to see what people had to say. It took exactly 4 posts before the discussion degenerated into a Right vs. Left, Conservative vs. Liberal tirade.
ReplyDeleteI don’t begin to understand this behavior except that, apparently, in order to provide some sort of “personal balance” about having to be “politically correct” in person, some people use the anonymity of the Internet to swing way to the other side by being rude, disgusting and just plain vile.
To you, Lynn, and to your faithful “sidekick” and Video Engineer, Judy:
Continue to do what you do, when you want to do it, at the speed that you wish to do it and for as long as you wish to do it.
I’ll still stop by to say, “Howdy!”
I am just amazed, and frankly, a little depressed, by comments like those made by Chip. I am a new carver and really enjoy seeing the methods you use to create your wonderful carvings. Your other comments make me feel like I know you a little bit and like I am learning carving from a friend.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the wonderful work that you do, Lynn. Don't let anybody get you down.
Mike
Judy and Lynn,
ReplyDeleteIt is said that it take 10 instances of pleasure to cancel out one instance of pain. I hope from reading all of the wonderful posts that there are way more decent human beings who truly appreciate what the two of you do for us than there are bad apples.
Along with everyone else, I am grateful for whatever and whenever you do. Jim
I think "Chip" needs to get a life and stay off the computer! Maybe some professional anger management counseling would help.

I can't understand folks like Chip, carving is supposed to be fun, relaxing and a learning carve for all. The learning carve of this situation is that some people shouldn't be part of such a fine undertaking. CHIP GO AWAY!! Woodcarvers don't need people like you around!!! I thoroughly enjoy Lynns blog. I have carved for years and since being shown this blog, it is truely inspirational and regenerated my wood carving interests. Lynn, please keep up the good work, there are just a few carvers in our small group, and everyone is awed by the blog. I really look forward to your postings, but that needs to done on your schedule, not anyone else's.
ReplyDeleteI sincerely hope to some day shake your hand and say thanks in person.

I would be willing to wager that the name Lynn deleted when he reposted Chip's tirade was mine. And guess what boys and girls...I don't give a hoot in Hades if was mine and if it had posted (but I do appreciate Lynn's consideration). I stand behind everything I said in my previous post where I called Chip out for his attitude, and I am not in the least bit affected by any made-up insult Chip could squeeze out of his narrow and parochial mind.
ReplyDeleteI want to add my voice to the choir that is singing the praises of your blog Lynn, and I know that you know how I feel about what you and Judy do because I have said it over and over in my posts on your blog...in fact, you probably are tired of me commenting on each video that you put out here for us. I comment on each post for two reasons...I really enjoy the videos and feel like I have gotten to know you and Judy personally through the blog...and because I feel that you deserve the common decency and respect of someone acknowledging that the effort and time you have expended is valued and worthwhile.
please ignore the lunacy that spews forth from the sewer that is Chip's poor attitude, and overlook the thoughtlessness of those who can't look beyond their own immediate need for self-gratification and insist that the whole world cater to them. We all know that the originator of that hateful post has to be a sad and lonely individual who is a misfit in proper society...the good book says we must be charitable to the less fortunate, and that probably includes the mentally and socially deficient as well. Therefore, I will never again discuss this person or comment on them (to the best of my ability to control my impulse to call out bad behavior).
I love my fix of "Lynn Blog", and hope to enjoy it whenever you chose to post ...and to continue doing so for a long, long time.
Best wishes to you and Judy, my internet friends and God bless you both for all the pleasure you give to so many through your blog.
It's sad, but it seems that no matter where we go we find people like that. Rest assured that for every one person with that kind of attitude, there are thousands of us who appreciate the unselfish gift that you and Judy have given us.
ReplyDeleteWe will always appreciate whatever portion of your skills you share with us and we'll appreciate it at whatever schedule you choose.
Your example has inspired many of us not just to be better carvers but to help others wherever we can as well. You and Judy make the world a better place - not just for the carving help but for your giving attitudes.
Clayne Jensen (HCJ)
Winners train and losers complain!
ReplyDeleteAnd we have evidence of the truth of that statement here in our own wood carving community -- I almost said family, but family suggests some reverence every member would have for each other, something that would have excluded Chip.
Too bad we can't vote him off the island...
Can you imagine a life so small that you would be willing to post such things? Boggles the mind...
Thanks to Judy and Lynn for all that you. We appreciate it and all that it entails.

Lynn, Judy, I don't know the right words to say, but I just wanted ya'll to know that I for one enjoy your blog and your videos every much! I check 2 to 3 times aday to see what is new. I don't always read the comments or comment.
ReplyDeleteThis Chip person sounds like a 15 yeaar old that can't get his way. Please don't this bother ya'll. I will be glad to wait as long as it takes to beable to learn more about your style of carving. please keep the videos coming!! I have bought a couple professional quality carving videos and yours are just as good and a lot better than any of the books.
Thank ya'll for doing this for all of us. thank you from me!!

For the disgruntled blog poster I would like to give the following for you to consider carefully.
ReplyDeleteAs of March 12, 2012, the world population exceeds 7 billion people. The world population’s personal activities and schedules are not here to revolve around yours.
While you are waiting for Lynn and Judy’s next poor quality video you could read a good book to expand your interpersonal horizons. A very popular one that has sold over 15 million copies is “How to Win Friends and Influence People”, by Dale Carnegie.
A wonderful line from the movie Monte Walsh comes to mind, “You have no idea how little I care.” -Monte Walsh
Lynn, I for one, would like to see your blog remain positive and upbeat where all of us that enjoy what you and Judy provide to us. Therefore, I would urge you to simple delete these useless non-substantive blog entries.
Ron
Lynn& Judy....I can only add to those of us who really appreciate everything you do in sharing your expertise, talent, instruction, banter, faux pas's, etall and that you do it at your pleasur & leisure. Seeing the tutorials or carving projects you do in-between videos makes coming onto your web-site a rewarding experience. If you had to do this "by the numbers" at a set pace, hell, what would be the purpose (fun) of that as it would be like working at a JOB!!!!! And guess what (Chip) we're retired and we do what we want when we want.
ReplyDeleteNext time you see a message from Chip. Just delete it. Don't even waste your time or energy reading what he has to bitch about. Life's too short. Just be Lynn & Judy to the 1,000s of us who appreciate ya.
Hi Lynn,
ReplyDeleteI met you in Ohio at the Dayton show. I rarely post much but this guy blows me away. Obviously he is just a 'cow'chip so don't pay him any attention. Wonder if he would be so thoughtless and belligerent in person? If he had a life he would understand sometimes there are more important things in life than posting videos on the computer. Keep up the good work. I'm proud to be learning from you and like to hear your stories and insights. It's a personal touch added to the experience carving.
Thank you,
Ed
Lynn & Judy... Chip can go take a flying leap. I have learned so much from your videos and I have several projects going at any one time. I will wait somewhat patiently and however long it takes to get the next video. In the meantime I will carve something else. Please know you are very much appreciated. ~ Debi Slager, Polo, IL

ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear what you have to put up with. Myself, I am very grateful that I get to share some of your life and your personality, not to mention your amazing carving.

Hey Lynn, If you ever figure out how to block chip, please don't, I need someone to laugh at.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all your time and effort and please don't change a thing. If you noticed, a few days ago, I even commented on how I like your personal touch on the videos. I like it when the phone rings or the wind chimes chime. Don't change for one person who is out in left field without a clue.
Thanks,
Ed
I'm with Chip on this sort of thing and by the way while your at it being sure I get the feeds when I want how I want can you also do some of the carving on my stuff because when I do it it doesn't turn out as well as when you do it so you should fix that too. And I wouldn't mind if when you come to do my carving for me you could bring a coffee too I like mine double double, thanks.
ReplyDeletePlease, Please. Please don't let one Stupid person affect you. There are many, many people out here that love what you do for us.If it wasn't for your videos I would not be carving today. Thanks Ginny
ReplyDeleteHi Lynn and Judy
ReplyDeleteI just want to say again how much I appreciate the work you two put into doing the videos and blog
Carl
This is a great site by a great artist that takes the time to try and make us better. If Chip has so much time on his hands, he could be practicing and creating his own style instead of just trying to copy everything from here. I do the carvings that Lynn does but I use that to learn the skills to put towards my own projects, not to just copy someone elses work. Everything I know about carving I learned from this site, so my work is highly influenced by Lynn's but I don't expect him to come to my house and do it all for me. Use the time, which isn't that bad when you consider that people have to live in between making videos, practicing, experimenting, and learning. Please Lynn, just ignore the "all about me" people and continue doing what you do.
ReplyDeleteThis PM I tried to leave a message to you Lynn, and I was blocked from doing so. some blog code, that google has to look into. fred k
ReplyDeleteIt never ceases to amaze me the unmitigated gall that some people have. You provide this absolutely free service at your own time and expense and some ungrateful waste of skin has the audacity to say the inflammatory words that he did. He should be ashamed of himself and his mother should give him a good lickin'. As for the rest of us, we appreciate every video, every photo, and every tip that you are willing to share. We're here for you Lynn. Don't change a thing.
ReplyDeleteBrandantR
Looks to me like this clown is so jealous, he can't stand himself. but then....no one else can stand him either!
ReplyDeleteWho is it that leaves such pucks for us all to step in? A Jack...
ReplyDeleteI have no kids ect. Thanks for including us.
TT
Somehow I missed this until now. What a freaking jerk.... sounds like he needs to get a new hobby. I bet his carving reflects that too. Too bad he can't be banned from the site. Thanks for all you and Judy do to further the craft.
ReplyDeleteUnbelievable. A shame you can't block the guy. He doesn't deserve to learn from you. I enjoy the personal comments.
ReplyDeleteI emailed you a while ago and here I am again. This louse should crawl into a hole and pull it in after him. Surely, he knows there is an alternative, SHUT THE COMPUTER DOWN IDIOT! But of course he won't do that he just likes to prove his manhood, trouble is he is acting more like a big crybaby who isn't having his own way. BOO HOO.
ReplyDeleteKeep doing what you do so well Lynn, the vast majority of us carvers appreciate what you do, Bad apples have a way of being thrown away.
Wonder if he was born that stupid or had to attend stupid classes??
ReplyDeleteLynn is the most unselfish and master carver anyone would be honored to meet. I am 66 years old and when I get his advice on carving or learn from his videos, it is a blessing, maybe if you liked yourself you could appreciate others, have a blessed day,and don't ruin it for those of that truly appreciate a Master carver and artist sharing with us what took him years to perfect
