Ron: As I'm doing this for a video I don't necessarily follow my normal steps sometimes. In this instance I would normally have carved the separation line between the bullet and the holder.
I just got back from a mini vacation, so I got caught up on watching the new videos. An incredible amount of detail is going into this guy, and it really shows. I have trouble visualiing the layers and knowing what to carve first, second, etc to keep all the detail in correct order and perspective, I know you have year o ex[erience in doing this that guides yu in the correct order to lay down details....I hope someday to hae a etter grasp of this myself. I really am impressed with the research you put into each figure to get it historically correct. Great video and I am eagerly awaiting the nexy installment.
I read Chip's comment a while ago, and really got upset at what he said and how he said it. I waited and calmed down, and now feel compelled to reply, both to Chip and to Lynn. I can't believe Chip would criticize someone who freely gives of his time (as well as Judy does the same), and particularly of his knowledge and skill to all of us...and does it for free as well. We all know Lynn could make some pretty nice money if he wrote books or sold his videos, yet we all benefit from them here for free. To think that his life is so devoid of other factors that he has nothing to do but teach and entertain us is ludicrous. The regular followers of the blog know he has an elderly mother,so I always worry that she has problems when there is a gap in the videos...while not elderly, Lynn is of a state of maturity (as am I), where the odds of health problems are on the upswing and I worry about his health as well. Judy, on the other hand, is a spring chick but you never know. I worry about my friends when I don't hear from them occasionally. They also deserve vacations and trips, and have children and grandchildren that also have first claim on their time if needed. If Lynn wants us to know why he is absent from the blog, he will tell us..otherwise we just patiently wait for it t be convenient for him to post.
I am also really upset abut you joking about Alzheimers..that is a cruel thing to do. My mother has moderately severe Alzheimers, she doesn't even know her own children half the time. She needs constant supervision and assistance, and that stress destroys the lives of all her four sons as well as the daughters-in-law and the grandkids as well. The stress of caring for a parent or loved one with alzheimers is devastating..it isn't something to joke about, or to wish or project on anyone. Not posting on a blog for a few days is not a reason to insult someone with calling them an alzheimers victim. Shame on you!!
I apologize to Lynn for the crass and thoughtless comments and expectations of the few, the majority of your blog followers appreciate your effort and love the gift of your free videos. Please do not let the uncivilized among us hurt your feelings or affect your day, Thank you for being here when you can, and we will see you on the blog when you are damn well ready to post something for us.
Funny! I've been down in the shop all morning polishing up the Buffalo Soldier to we can pick up where we left off tomorrow and I come up to find Chip's selfish observations. My first thought was the disaster of our welfare rolls where probably 80 percent of the people drawing checks have done it for so long they now expect it and feel it's owed to them. Maybe Chip feels the same way about all the videos we've posted. Chip, maybe it's time you took a long break from this Blog and pay a visit to some of the other carving sites that offer free videos and advice.
And just to give you an idea of what Judy and I have been up to since March 20th when we posted the last segment on the Buffalo Soldier here's a rundown...... We spent the 21st & 22nd getting ready for our trip to Kansas City to attend their woodcarving show over the weekend. Monday the 26th was catch-up day around here....mowing grass, spraying the house, shop, gallery and barn for the yearly onslaught of bugs and taking Judy to the Doctor to get her foot checked out. Tuesday I had to fix one of the gutters on the house as the 10 inches of rain we got last week was just too much for one side of the house. Yesterday we unpacked the truck and re-installed all the carvings back in the gallery and in the afternoon I went down to the community center to spend some time whittling with the local boys. Today Judy is attending a funeral and then volunteering at the hospital. And last but not least this afternoon I'm going over to the pond and drop a hook in the water to hopefully catch something. Hopefully, the plan is to post a new video tomorrow unless something else comes up.
As for being hurt by such comments it doesn't bother me at all.
As a new carver i totally depend on video's to learn more about carving,I check every day for any new videos,if none i will go to valut and watch older videos,, so much learning, Lynn is a true artist,, his one of a kind designs,, his carving and his painting skills.and he shares it with everyone, out of his love of the art of carving and kindness of him and Judy to spend their time to share his skills to so many,Chip has no right to voice his grips about video schedules, Like most humans he does have a life beside carving,Family comes first, and he is family man, I would attend any type of class he ever decided to teach,in a heart beat, i can set and watch him for hours carve, your our the best, and i want to thank you and Judy for what you provide,
I just shake my head and marvel at what you can do . Fantastic. Ginny
ReplyDeleteLynn, is there a particular reason you choose to round the bullet ends before doing the cross cut on the cartridge holder?

There are far more of us that appreciate what you are giving us compared to those that are whining about the timing of their delivery...
ReplyDeleteThanks again for the lessons and help you provide us.

I'm agreement with what Kent said, and could'nt have said it any better.
