Crusty

With the addition of the cigarette makins' tag hanging from his waistcoat pocket, I finally finished this piece.    In painting him I tried to keep the colors a little dark and brooding to carry the theme of a bloke who's a little pissed at the world around him.   I think I managed that.

If you can remember back a while, I did his head in a WCI forum post about "How Long Did This Take" thread where someone carved the head of a devilish figure.  To turn it into Crusty I just whittled off the points of the ears and there he was.

I know a lot of you are waiting for the next Gabby video.  It will be a while yet as the Grandkids will be here till the first week of September.  Anyway, hope you like this krusty fella and your comments are welcome as always.

  2. As always Lynn, he's fantastic!!! I'm amazed everytime you produce a new piece at the details you are able to carve and the beauty of your painting. This guy with his gold tooth is no exception. Very well done.

  3. Good-un Lynn. I like the "meaness" you put into him. Some of them cow-punchers were just naturally ornery.

  4. Great carving as usual Lynn. I have a question you or someone else may be able to help with. I'm in Australia and would dearly love to get my hands on the carvers tape you use but can't find anywhere over here to get it. I don't mind buying it from the States but I have to know where to get in contact.
    Cheers from Down-Under

Here's a good source for that tape. Buy several rolls....I also wrap my gloved fingers just as an extra precaution and to save the glove material.

  6. How about posting a pattern for the hat? That way we can test our wings further.

  7. Thanks very much Lynn,
I will buy several rolls.I'm an avid western-aholic.I've gone to all the old movie clips you've suggested and thoroughly enjoyed them all.
I must share something with you... I loved horses all my life and I grew up with shows like My Friend Flicka and my favourite was Fury.
The problem I had was my Dad was in the army and we moved a lot and no matter how much I always wanted a horse of my very own it couldn't be as we moved every 2 years.
I'll never forget when I saw my first horse in real life. I was 8 years old. I couldn't believe it when a friend of mine said a friend of her sisters had a horse in their back yard and for me to come over and see it. When I raced to the back of their house I felt like someone was playing a joke on me. There was a horse there, but it was all hairy...horses aren't hairy...Fury was so sleek and shiny and black on the telly. He didn't have hair....he looked shiny as glass. This horse was HAIRY. That dissapointment lasted until I got close enough to touch this horse...he was warm under my fingers and he felt soft and alive. The girl offered to give me a ride and I climbed up behind her bareback and we went into the bush and we trotted and then cantered and all I could do was laugh. I didn't get a horse of my own for another 20years but I will never forget that day as long as I live.
    Cheers again,
    Belinda

  9. Hello Lynn - I have been following your blog for some time but have not left a comment as I don't have my own blog. However, after seeing the comment above from Bob, I felt compelled to set one up so that I could say how completely and utterly shocked I was at Bob's comment. You are an amazing person! You go out of your way to bring and your share your talent and time to this wonderful blog. It should not matter how often you post - it is your blog and most reasonable people look forward to your posts and are grateful for them. It is great that you are getting to spend time with your family and I hope you are thoroughly enjoying yourself and happily ignoring this hurtful and ungrateful comment! Get back to blogging whenever it suits you - I (and I am sure most others) look forward to seeing you back online but, only when you have the time!). Thank you so much for the time, care and attention you give to your readers!
    Mack.

PS...now that I have made I comment, I will probably continue and hopefully the next one will just be about your great work!

  10. Lynn, I'm amazed that someone would be that shortsighted, to say what he did. Your family, comes first, and by no means could I ever think that way. When you get back around to it, you do what you do best, and don't let the people like him, get you down, we are all with you, and I hope your having a wonderful time with your family. fred k

  11. Aside from all the other hurtful comments you made about me and my efforts here, could you please let me know just what my "agenda" is as I must have overlooked that somewhere. Also, thanks for at least admitting that I'm not stupid as I was worried about that. One thing I'm still having trouble with though is just why someone, who seems to have so many of their own issues with this web address, just why they continue to hang around? Surely there are other places you could go that would more suit your desires and outlook. I think maybe it's time you should start your search.

  12. Actually, I delete a lot of comments I receive that you've probably never seen. Sometimes though I leave up a negative comment(s) long enough to allow others to see what one must put up with when trying to help others out. Your's are a good example of this. However, being as this Blog is mine I still retain the right to delete what I want when I want so I have deleted your recent comments but left the others up.

As for joining in on the conversation I really think your mostly just talking to yourself as no one else seems to really be interested in what you're saying. Maybe a little disgusted but certainly not that interested.

  14. I have been away for three weeks on a family visit, so haven't kept up with the comments..I would just say that there are a lot of people in this world who live pathetic, meaningless lives and can only find personal joy in trying to demean others down to their level. I know that even when an idiot says untrue things about you it hurts, but just remember that the vast, vast majority of us enjoy your efforts and appreciate your time commitment to this blog. Please accept my heartfelt gratitue for your blog...and I hope your visit with the grandkids is wonderfull in all respects, family is the most precious jewel in the crown of life, seize every moment with them that is available.

  15. Lynn and Judy,

I totally agree with Kent's statement. There always seems to be at least one person who wants to spoil the 'party' The rest of the real carver out here truly appreciate the work you both put in more that you can know.
