Carving A Cowboy Head – Part 9 – Finishing Up!

With this installment we’ll finish the Cowboy head and this series of videos.  I hope you enjoyed them as much as I did making them.

If you’re interested in the San-O-Flex sanding wheel you can get all the information at http://www.meritabrasives.com/product/sand-o-flex.aspx.  I use the 320 grit refills.   You won’t be sorry in getting this tool as the more you use it the more uses you find for it.
-
In the future I hope to do additional videos with this same head where I’ll show how to give him a hat, a bust-type body and finally, a paint job.  However, that will be down the line a bit as I have to get some things ready for the upcoming Dayton show in November.

As always your comments are welcome especially as I’m trying something new.  I appreciate your input.

  3. Thanks Lynn, for all the work u and ur wife did on making these videos. They were excelent!
I learned some things that will help me to be a better carver. The way u did the eyes is something I'm going to try. I was a douter about using a utility knife, but I gave it a try. Work better than expected.

  9. Lynn,

Fantastic job on your first video series and your wife too for filming it and keeping up with your moving the head all round the shop. It must have been nerve racking for her.

Are you doing a hat for his bald noggin? He must get cold on the range without one.

A big yes please from me too for a DVD copy. You would clean up I'm sure.

I got me an old reliable a while back when I saw from your previous blogs what you carved with. For the modest price of $2.50 at our local Canadian Tire store it is the best and sharpest knife I own. I've put it through a whack of wood and I'm still on the first blade! I just keep stropping it and the edge comes back as good as new

Many thanks and keep up the great instruction. I learned a ton of stuff from the series.

  10. Whew!! I'm so overwhelmed by this marvelous series you did and I too would like to get a DVD copy of it. Hope you'll pursue that part of this, your first video project.

Thanx so much for sharing and above all keeping it simple in style, technique, and instruction. Your narritive that goes along with it makes everything about this video a comfortable learnig experience.

And of course the Mrs.....(or Judy B. De Mille as she's known on the OK studio lot), deserves tons of credit for the Direction & Cinematography work. Good job Judy!

Looking forward to any further projects via video, pisca gallery, live chat, or whatever medium you decide to use.

  12. I sound like the member of a large choir but I want to thank you and Judy for the series. I will sign up for the DVD now. When will you take orders. I would like to see the next series on the wonderful details that you do to creat the chaps and the guns/gun belts and how you get so much detail in your paintings.

  13. Lynn & Judy,

Great job overall on the video's! Looking forward to the next episodes.

I do not know how much work will be involved in making a DVD and the associated ordering and mailing. Might think about a download system where we could just send you a few bucks then download the video's. The CCA had a system a few years ago on a book they did. It was done on the honor system. Don't know how that worked for them as the book is no longer available that way.

    Keep up the good work.

I am looking forward to more.

Will this system replace the in house classes to discussed? If Judy ever get fed up filming I will volunteer...
