This video has a hiccup in the beginning. But it’s not so bad that I need to go back and redo it. So I’ll just apologize for repeating myself.

In making hair I keep it quite simple. The reason I do it this way is that for my carving style I think its all that’s needed. And speaking of style I expound a little about my thoughts on developing one of your own. There is no greater satisfaction than when people recognize that something you made is truly yours.
Very nice! I can't wait to see the eyes! Oh! Love the detail in the cheeks. It makes me want to start up another tree carving!
ReplyDeleteGreat show I think what is making it great is your camera person Later John Smith Anchorage Alaska
ReplyDeleteLynn,
ReplyDeleteI have done caricatures both with and without the head. But when I do the head separately I always have problems when attaching the head to the body with getting angle of the hole in the body correct to receive the neck.
So, if you are taking requests...
Great explaination on developing indiviual "style" Lynn. I know when I carve something, either from a book/magazine of instruction with various character designs (and even a rough out), it never comes out looking like the original carver did it. But learning how to do things from master carvers such as you can only enhance the style of a caricature I'm creating. To paraphrase Marve Kaisersatt, nothing he does is etched in stone and doesn't have to be followed step by step to the letter. Take from it what you need and can use and disregard the rest.
ReplyDeleteWatching how you do something when creating a caricature enables guys like me to advance in technique and style, thus adding to our ability to work on the creeative part of a carving by designing a caricature face that is unique & as individual as our own.
Looking forward to seeing how them eyes are done your way.
