Not much new with this one as I've pretty well explained the process of making him. The cup is made from tin roof flashing which I polished up after soldering and gave a coat of clear laquer. I decided to just use the horseshoe mount to keep the cost of the piece down. I haven't decided on what type of design to use on the apron but will try and come up with something unique to make him different from the others.

Anyway, hope you like him. A few more photos in the Gallery and comments welcome as always.
Love your blog I LOVE the NO OBAMA carving! How AWSOME is that!!! I can't wait to follow your next post....nice to see there are other woodcarvers out there. ( full time perhaps?)
ReplyDeleteHello Lynn, I really like your camp cooks. Years ago you were featured at the Dayton show and I was able to see some of your camp cooks at that time. It was a real thrill to just get to hold one. Just curious how tall this one is less the base. I will guess it's about 9-1/2" tall. Great job, I sure hope to see the finished project after painting.....Myron
ReplyDeleteHi Lynn,
ReplyDeleteAnother great carving. I'm almost finished with a pair of boots and was motived by the cook. So, I went wwaayyy back and reviewed your step-by-step cook. Think that will be my next effort this fall.
What type of tip or tips are you using to do the wood burning? I'm looking to purchase a burner.

Ron...I use a small slanted tip to burn the detail lines. Good luck on the cook and let me know if you need any help.
ReplyDeletedo you use self-etching paint on the copper additions on the coffee pot or do you just paint the acrylics straight on...or does it matter either way??
ReplyDeletegreat carving, I have always enjoyed your cooks. Especially that big one you did some years ago with the cowboys lining up for chow next to the wagon.
