Again a very interesting video. Putting the folds in the shirt is one of the parts I think can make are break a piece. You know how to make them look very natural. Ginny
AGAIN YOU SHOW US EFFORTLESS CARVING...WOULD THAT WE COULD DO THE SAME. But we persevere and continue to practice. Your folds look so natural, and they are very soft. I think that I am trying to make mine too defined, too precise...they just look "harsh" and I plan on working on that. The other thing that struck me while watching this video is how clean and "un-fuzzied" your carving is at all times.Even though my knives are carving sharp, I still don't always (or same days even usually) get the job done with one cut, and wind up with repeated goes at an area and lots of ragged areas that sometimes just get worse the more I try and clean them up. That one pass ability you have for your cuts is something I want Santa to bring me for Christmas....but I reckon it will came with more years of practice instead. Looking forward to the right arm and them the attachments/accessories. Thanks for the series on the miner.
I agree, you really do make it look a lot easier than it actually is. Knowing how deep to make each cut so the chip comes out smoothly with no fuzzies and not to deep so you end up with a slash in your piece, I do get it right sometimes and it feels real good when I do!! Just need to get it right more often. Looking forward to the next instalment, hope your still doing a cart, would really love to see you make one. Keep up the good work . Trev
Patience! I'm not doing this as a seminar. We've got a life and responsibilities outside of woodcarving and this year there is a lot more of the one over the other. The day these videos begin to dominate our time that will be the day they end. Sorry, but thats just the way it's got to be.
I've got to put my 2cents in.Lynn ,I hope I'm not out of line when I say there is little new in this figure that you have not covered in previous videos. That's great to provide a new perspective. The point I'm trying to make is if someone is attempting to follow you,cut for cut, they are going to be disappointed. They should understand that to progress as a carver you must step out of your comfort zone and actually carve something On Your Own!If the project Lynn is sharing is too slow ,then get off your duff and progress on your own.Peruse his almost three hundred free videos and decide if you can be original or not.
Wow people get free help with videos and have the nerve to say its taking to long carve the right arm like the left one negative crap like this will end these videos for us he has a life other than carving Lynn and Judy are giving us more than enough of their time with these videos and we are getting them at no cost
I have made myself clear in the past that I think that people that complain in any way about these videos are off their rocker. What we get is a FREE lesson from a master carver...FREE!! So what if some of the material in the video is repetitive...it should be as most of every carving we do is repetitive. Every person has two arms (mostly) so we carve two arms each time..ditto for legs, feet hands. We can make minor differences, but a hand is basically a hand. Faces are made different by minor changes in shape and proportion. We really don't do much different with each carving, just the small stuff....and the more times we see it the better we understand and the better we get. As for the time between videos...that is what started another dust-up here a while back. This series represents a lot of time (multiplied by two as Judy as well as Lynn has to be there for each installment) as well as cost. Those HD cameras aren't in boxes of Cracker Jacks...nor is a web host free when you have this much data flying around. The Doughty's have lives as well,...family, and property, and social lives, and the production of these videos is probably not the main focus of their existence. If you aren't satisfied with the content, or the timeliness, or anything else about these videos...GET THE HELL OFF THE BLOG....we don't need your bad attitude nor your snide comments. I support the Doughty s 100% and am grateful for what hey give me, not whining for more or something else. I do not include the honest critique about not much new in this rant, as that is a legitimate comment made in friendship..as opposed to the whining about time between installment. I know 99%of everybody that comes here is a great person and fellow carver, but man that other 1% can get under my skin. Off the soapbox now and to refill my coffee. Have a great day.
Geeeee, guys calm down, I am not ungrateful, I have given tip money several times and even bought a couple of carvings.I am not carving along on this one, its just that we have been on this guy since the first part of April, that's all. Lynn and Judy are my hero's!!!!
I have calmed down, and regret a couple of aspects in my prior post. It is not my place to tell anyone to get off the blog...the blog belongs to Lynn and it is at his discretion that we are able to come here. I also do not need to defend Lynn, he is a big boy and can handle his affairs. I apologize to Lynn for overstepping my boundaries. I tend to get irritated and say something before I think it through.
Everyone around here should remember that we do these videos when the time allows. Sometimes they go pretty quickly but there are times when it takes a while due to other things encroaching on our efforts. Also, remember that these videos will be around for years to come as some already are. The videos on this site are probably the most extensive caricature carving reference you will find anywhere on the net with more being added as we go. We do this strictly to help out those interested in following along. We do gain a few coins occasionally which goes to help pay for the Vimeo subscription and other expenses related to making the videos and we're appreciative of that. Of course, we'd probably do it anyway as it's fun and satisfying to know we might have helped somehow.
I look at everyone of your videos as a gift. A very appreciated and charised gift. Like my grandfather always said.”never look a gift horse in the mouth”…. thanks Lynn/Judy
