The Coal Miner - Part 18 - The Left Arm

Things are starting to settle down around here so it's time to get back to the Coal Miner.  A funny thing on our trip to Yellowstone....we rented a historic log cabin just outside of Gardiner, Montana that was built back in 1907.  Setting inside the living area was a antique coal cart which was just the type I had planned on making as an accessory to this figure.  There was an old mine up the hill from the cabin so evidently they just moved it down the slope and into the house.  Neat!

  1. Watching you carve is an art form. You make it look so easy. At first I thought you might have made the lower part of the arm too small. But I have changed my mind. I can see now I was wrong. Carving the hand, wow. Again you make it look so easy. Thanks Lynn and Judy. Ginny

  2. Welcome back from the great area around Yellowstone..a truly beautiful part of this great land we are fortunate enough to live in. We have all been eagerly awaiting the resumption of the videos, and are glad you two got a break but it sure is good to see you both again. The miner gets a hand...I used to dread hands (and eyes, and ears, and legs, and...) but your techniques have helped me to the point that I no longer dread any part of the carving process, I just recognize the challenge and go at it. I do admit to not making as good a hand as you do...no matter what, there is just a bit of "stiffness" to my hands that I don't seem to be able to rid them of....will observe your technique more closely and see if I can get a tip or two (or ten). Thanks for the videos again and welcome back to regular life.

Really looking forward to seeing the construction of the coal cart, I think those extra pieces really give your carvings that little something special. Hope you go into loads of detail in the construction!!! Can you tell I'm looking forward to this piece? Keep up the good work. Trev
