Here's an early look at a scene I'm working on. Started it early last year and you may have seen in setting on the table during some of the videos. I made the base first as I wanted to see just how it would look as a platform for the figures. The hole goes down through all three levels and will be textured to match the upper area when done. I plan on having two additional figures in the hole shoveling and they will be only partially be seen. Of course there will be lots of little details laying around. The base is about 18" wide to give you some scale of it's size.

The little poem is one of my own and while it doesn't really explain what his neck was stretched for it's clear that whatever it was he won't be doing it again.

I hope to have this one done by the Dayton show. As always your comments are welcome and there are a few more photos in the Gallery.
Well, it might be a little morbid, but it certainly is a part of the old wild and wooley west. With the base that large, it certainly will be a piece of dimension, and should occupy quite a place in your exhibit at Dayton. Looking forward to seeing the entire scene...shouldn't take so lang since you just have to carve half of each gravedigger if they are in the hole. There are already a lot of details in the pice, so if you are going to add more, it should be uite an adventure just finding all the surprises. Looking forward to the net video project, but we know you have to make a living and get ready for your shows.
ReplyDeleteLynn,
ReplyDeleteQuite a large scene, and funny at that. Would you tell us what the dowel out of the griever's cowboy hat is for? I'm stumped at the moment trying figure it out. Loved the Viking project a lot. That is why I have one of your Santas, because it is something different from your usual excellent pieces, therefore even more unique.
The dowel is just to temporarily hold the hat in place.
ReplyDeleteLynn, you have such a wonderful imagination and the way you put it to life in your carvings is a true Gift from God. I'm very fortunate to have very good carvers around me here..you've even spoken of the way one of my carving friend does hair.. but I must say you are "THE BEST" and a darn good teacher, too.
ReplyDeleteThank you and your sweet wife for helping all of us out here!!

ReplyDeletewell done Lynn (as usual)
Lynn,
ReplyDeleteSince I've stumbled onto your site a few years back, you never cease to amaze me. I love everything you carve. your imagination and skills are truly a gift from GOD! If you remember me writing to you, you know that I'm into carving scenes, this one is right up my alley. I'm still anxiously awaiting for you to do a Civil War scene. Thanks for all your fantastic worknd and inspiration. Tour admirer, friend, and fellow carver, Bob "Moose" Cisko
