Look What Flew In!

Carved these two guys this morning as I continue to flesh out the burial scene.  Can't wait to get them painted as they really add a lot to the theme of the piece.  The tree is a piece of cedar I clipped off a dead tree yesterday and ran it through a steel brush and the flap sander.  I'll stain and paint it later.  Cedar is great for things like this as it doesn't rot like other found wood.  Haven't decided what to put on the smaller sign but I've good some good ideas.

Some more photos in the Gallery and your comments are welcome as always.

  1. Really neat vultures, they will definatly add interest to the scene. Will there be an undertaker there as well? or a preacher? There are a lot of extras that can go in a scene such as this, will be fun to see what you come up with. Should be a definate hit at the Dayton show...I herarby go on the record, publically...and predict a Blue Ribbon for this piece...and with any luck at all, a best in show or a peoples choice is a possibility as well.

  2. Thanks so much for all you teach. I just recentlt found youre site. I can't understand why everyone would not use your method for arms. I'm hoping it would be alright to carve some of your pieces to learn the methods and then develope some of my own. I've always felt "Lonesome Dove" was the best picture ever made. Seeing Deets just makes me want try him myself. Anyway, I ramble. I'm hoping you will respond positivley to my request. Thank you again for all your videos and pictures of your work.
