I'm going to take a break from the Cowboy on a Horse project to get caught up on some upcoming show carvings. Got to make some travel money!! I thought I'd take you along as I carve a Cowboy Bust.

The head will be carved from a 2 inch thick piece of Basswood. Once it is complete we'll do the lower part of the bust and then the hat. Should make a nice little carving.

There are lots of photos in the associated album along with some descriptions to help you along. Should you have any questions just drop me a note.
your work is wonderful

Lynn,
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great beginning. Enjoy watching your work progress, it's like a good book you don't want to put down. What is the overall width and height of the cowboy bust?

Lynn, I have him about 3" high with that 1 3/4" ear to nose measurement. Is that right?
ReplyDeleteWell,I thought I posted this a couple of hours a go but it's not here. Lynn, I cut a blank out 2" thick x 1 3/4" wide and 3" long and something not right. This head/neck is short and fat/squatty looking, there has to be something wrong, help!

I used stock that was 2" thick. The Width from looking at the head laid out on the wood looks about 1 3/4". I'm not sure what the neck to top of head measurement is as I didn't take it. I would imagine it to be about 4" inches or so.
