Sorry about the absence of any new Blog posts recently. We're in the middle of a kitchen cabinet upgrade and the place has turned in to "Crazy House"! Hopefully, by the weekend, at least the new cabinets will be installed so things can get back to a degree of normality until the countertop crew shows up. Also, my new video editing software has been lost in the black hole of the U.S. Postal Service just when my free trial version expired. Why is life like this? And to think they want to run our health care. God help us all!

Anyway, sorry for the lapse in posts. How's those Quigley carvings going?
Keep your head Lynn. I'm doing my best to keep mine....and Quigley's. His mustache keeps breaking off and I'm running out of room to save it. Might have to chuck this head and carve a new one.(Quigley's head, not mine)

My Quigley head looks good. Just took to long to carve it. Working on the hat now, my head maybe to large for the hat to look right, but it is a caricature. Body & gun yet to be carved.

Head and body pretty much carved.... got the brim cut out....hope I can get the right proportions on the hat. Looking good so far, but not sure you would guess it was Tom Selleck unless I told you! I'm guessing you bought the Cyber Director software.... I've been playing with Pinnacle Videospin and have combined your head and bust tutorials into two separate avi files with titles and fades and such. They play great on my PC but I'm still trying to figure out how to make them work in a plain old DVD player. I have a remodeling project also, but since I suck at sheetrock, we (I) may just pay someone to do some of it. I'm more of a framing carpenter than a finish carpenter!

I know what your talkin about, having house put back together after a no. of years waterleak. It aint pretty. Quig is coming but I can't say its great but its fun. Hope all that entered are finding it easier than I. Will be in touch. fred
ReplyDeleteAmen! The postal service just "found" one of our Christmas packages sent on Dec 10th! I know is says 4-6 weeks for delivery...but REALY! 6 FULL WEEKS! We are just happy they found and delivered it BEFORE Cheryl had to refund the customres money. Go USPS! YEAH!
ReplyDeleteHi Joe B here my wife and I know how it is it is what it is. We Just got done with out kitchen a year ago and still can't find a pot. Takes us long to remember where everthing is then where it was.Well love your carvings I've been carving for well a while. and can't seem to get the face I can carve bears dogs, faces not as brillantly as you carve guess it take practice. ReplyDeleteI don't know if it's a coincidence about the whole kitchen remodel thing, but today my sister asked me to help her build and install new kitchen cabinets in her home. At least it's not my house!!! Anyway, Quigley is looking good my my standards. I've finshed the body and head, just a few more details to finish up and he'll be ready for the painting table. I sure hope everyone is having as much fun with their cavings as I'm having with mine.

I too know of those "house projects" that make your life hectic. I've been installing elctronic equipment in my home that we got for Christmas and have to crawl under the house for the wiring etc and I'mhalf done. Then shingles on the garage roof blew off during the winter blast of artic air here in the midwest this past couple of weeks and it's no fun being outside in those single digit temps. Soooo craving unfortunately has been minimal. Got the head & bust roughed out and hope to hit it big time this weekend during the predicted heat wave of 40 degree temperatures as I work in the garage and need it warm(er) when using sharp tools. Don't know if I'll meeet the deadline, (or want to) as I want to do it right. Anxious to see how the others did too.

ReplyDeleteCarving on Quigley is an adventure to say the least! After two tries on the head, I put that part aside and went to work on the body which I'm working on now. The face is the hardest for me, and if my third try is anything like the first two, Quigley might be entered without a head! Maybe just a block of wood and I'll rename him.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I'm still having fun and it's back to the carving table where I'll see if Quigley can be saved or will become a piece of firewood.
I'm there with you banjo....aftr carving head number 3 I switched over to the body part & rifle. Head seems difiicult becasue ole Quig dosen't have any ears and getting the anatomy proportions right on the face seem most frustrating. We'll rough out another head today and see what happens........
