As you will see when I carved the Slicker I used a carpenters profile gauge to assist in getting a good fit. We'll be using that again when we start the Cowboy so if you plan on completing that portion you'll need to make a trip to the home center to pick one up. Mine belonged to my Dad so I'm sure the new ones might look a little different. I wouldn't think they cost too much.

I'm thinking of trying something new with the Cowboy which, if it works out, should make carving a portion of him a little easier but at the same time allow us to do a really nifty detail.

Lots of additional photos in the album and questions and comments always welcome.
Really awesome Lynn! I can't believe the speed at which you put this stuff out. The old mare looks great! She looks gentle enough for the grandkids to enjoy on a Sunday afternoon.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I really enjoyed the collage pic you posted under Misc. Photos. What a testament to your talents. Can you tell us what the span of years is in that photo to create those caricature carvings? Thanks much!

Lynn, how about a nice handle-bar and beard for this cowboy?

Thanks for everthing How do I get to collage pic under Misc Photos Thank you John Anchorage Alaska
ReplyDeleteLynn, any chance we could get you to post two of the pics you have in the collage that haven't been posted to your blog yet? I'd really like to see the back side of the Afghan warrior (looks like UBL maybe but tough to tell with such a small pic) to view the RPG on his back? I'm working on that same weapon system now. I'd also like to see the book ends of the fella struggling with the stubborn mare. Thanks very much for your time.

TomG.....The Afghan guy is in the Gallery now.
ReplyDeleteHello Lynn, I really appreciate it. But, I've dug into every folder in your Picasso Gallery and all through your web site Gallery but no luck is spotting the Afghan guy. Can you point me in the right direction? Sorry for the hassle and thanks again very much.

Opps.....I just made it public!!
ReplyDeleteLynn,
ReplyDeleteNothing wrong with going public. I beleive it is accurate.
It is a great carving & when I noticed the "easy button" I almost fell out of my chair.
Good work as usual.

Still plugging away on my horse project. This is my second "Lynn Doughty" horse. And it never fails that the second one of anything that I carve is never as good as the first one. This is no exception but I am really enjoying it Lynn. Thanks so much.....Myron
ReplyDeleteThanks Lynn. The Afghan guy looks amazing...and lets me know how much work I still have to do. Thanks for that pre-paint back shot too.
