Little Joe Beaver

Here is a little quickie I did yesterday while my son and I were trying ot figure out how to make a video to upload. We finally gave upon the video but the figure turned out pretty good. He stands just a little over 8" in his moccasins and I hope to do a couple of others to go along with him in some sort of scene.....maybe standing in the snow roasting a hot dog or something. There are more photos in the Gallery and I'll post some additional ones once he's painted up.

As always, comments welcome.

  1. Lynn, a "quickie"?? This looks incredible. Can you tell us how long it actually took to complete the carving and what size block did you start with? Thanks much and great work.

  2. Tom: As this fella is just a little over 8" I found the block for him in the cut-off bin. If I had to punch a clock when doing him I imagine it would be somewhere around 3 hours but I don't work that way, especially with grandkids to play with and tease.

  3. Thanks Lynn! Really amazing work here in a day. Sure provides a great amount of inspiration to the rest of us. I'd be happy to give up three weeks to carve up a Little Joe Beaver like this. Thanks a million for sharing all this with the rest of us. Truly priceless stuff.

  4. Lynn-On your carving's,you do the head's separate. On this one do you add the side braided hair after doing the head or is one piece?

  5. Curt: Yes, I do the heads seperate and then attach the braids once I determine the best head position. I dowel them on.
