This is Little Joe Beaver's best buddy on the Res. They meet each morning behind Bette's Kitchen Cafe on Black Elk Road in hopes of a handout before heading down to Pine Ridge to look for any available work. There's one more character in this group but he hasn't showed up yet....maybe next week. I sure hope he turns up as he will complete the scene that I have a vision of.

I really like doing these little figures. Being as they are wrapped in a blanket most of the body detail is covered. This guy measures at 9" and I just whittled him freehand working from scraps I scrounged from my cutoff box. There are more photos in the Picasa Gallery along with those of Little Joe Beaver. Comments welcome.
Geez Lynn, fascinating!!! Are you still thinking roasting hotdogs in the snow? You're absolutely right about the horse. I broke a 3 yr old philly paint on Easter Sunday and have been busy, around carving of course, ensuring she doesn't forget who is boss. She tried me yesterday so we spent a couple of hours running around the round pen together. Also farriered our shetland pony and like you said, a horse loves a good pick every now and then. I like the patches you put on the blankets with the wood burner it looks like.
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of wood do you use to carve? I'm wanting to get into carving some, I do more Scroll saw work and a little woodworking, but want to expand my wood knowledge by working wood different ways
