Tequila Sunrise - Finished

With the Grandkids back safely in Bahrain I was able to wrap this piece up this morning. I think he turned out pretty good. I was having a problem trying to settle on a name for the village sign until I looked up Tequila and saw that it is a village in Mexico. Just by chance we had a bottle of Jose Cuervo in the liquor cabinet so I spirited it off to the shop, taking a sip on the way to get the true feel of this fella's situation. If you're familiar with the Cuervo label you'll recognize it. Once the sign was painted I thought it wouldn't really look complete without a few bullet holes so I drill a few random shots and then used the burner to lightly outline each hole. Makes a nice little touch.

More photos in the Gallery and I left them large so you can really zoom in on that poor fella. As always, comments welcome.

  2. Lynn,
Your work is outstanding. I enjoy seeing all your postings. I'm a carver, but not in your league. I've been picking up rocks here in New Mexico for use as a base sometime (have more than I can use in a lifetime). What medium do you use between the bottom of the rock and the top of the oak base to match surfaces and keep the rock from wobbling?

  3. Geo....I use Bondo auto body filler. Just mix up a big glob of it, plop it down on a piece of newspaper on a flat surface and then set the rock in place. Once it's set but not yet completely hard you can remove it from the paper and carve it to rough up the edges.

  4. Great job as always.
Love the real rock and the details.
Is one of many of your pieces I can look forward to seeing in Dayton?!

  5. Lynn,
Thanks for the info on Bondo. I'll give it a try with my next cowboy base. I used your small gravel with Mod-Podge on the base for my last cowboy carving and liked the results. Thanks again for being so generous with your technical help. Looking forward to seeing more of your outstanding work.
